About Us
Dr. Garrison Meighen, founder and owner of New Horizons
Eyecare, has been practicing optometry for nearly 20 years. She earned her optometry degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham – School of Optometry in 1991. She also earned bachelor degrees in Biology and Psychology, as well as a Master’s degree in Forensic Science. In addition to her busy optometry practice, Dr. Meighen is committed to volunteerism and helping those in need. As part of that commitment she has participated in several volunteer missions to provide vision care and glasses to underprivileged people in impoverished Third World countries including Honduras, Thailand and Jamaica. She has also served on the Board of Directors for the Birmingham Greater Humane Society. Dr. Meighen is a member of the American Optometric Association and serves on the Membership Committee of the Alabama Optometric Association. In her spare time you will find her near the water, on the water or perhaps under the water because she loves camping, canoeing, kayaking, and scuba diving.
Associates
Dr. Julie Blake graduated from Auburn University in 1994 with a degree in Wildlife Science. She went
on to Snead State where she obtained her Veterinary Technician degree. In 2005, she received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham School of Optometry. She is a board member of the University of Alabama, Birmingham, School of Optometry Alumni Association, as well as a member of the American Optometric Association and the Alabama Optometric Association.
Dr. Parisa Dudley received her B.S. in Zoology from Auburn University in 2000. She went on to receive her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2004 from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, School of Optometry. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Alabama Optometric Association.
Dr. Dawn Johnson received her optometry degree from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1994. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude) from Indiana State University, where she participated in genetics research from 1987-90. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Alabama Optometric Association.
Dr. Jessica Palmer graduated from Troy State University, in Troy, Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999. She obtained her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham in 2005. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Alabama Optometric Association, the Birmingham Area Optometric Society and the University of Alabama, Birmingham, School of Optometry Alumni Association.
